US Ambassador to Azerbaijan visited the Customs Academy

The meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger was held at the Academy of the State Customs Committee on May 16. The meeting organized on the occasion of the opening of the English-language training computer lab established at the Academy of the State Customs Committee with the support of the US Embassy, was attended by the top management and the staff of the State Customs Committee and the Academy, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger and the embassy delegation.

Welcoming the guests, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Major General Javad Gasimov stated that he was pleased to see them at the Academy of the State Customs Committee. Speaking to the ambassador about the existing  relations between the two countries in the organization of customs work, the Deputy Chairman emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of education. Then, Javad Gasimov outlined the significant prospects and benefits of establishing a language lab, highlighting that this is a crucial step in the terms of  development of both students and customs officers. He expressed his gratitude to the ambassador and the US government on behalf of the State Customs Committee and the top management of the Academy for their cooperation in setting up a language lab and providing it with the appropriate training resources.

   Prof. Jamila Namazova, the Deputy Head of the Academy of the State Customs Committee, welcomed the visitors and expressed her satisfaction at meeting them at the university she represents. Informing the ambassador about the primary activities of the Academy of the State Customs Committee, Namazova noted that the Academy attaches special importance to increasing the knowledge of foreign languages of students ​​in the educational process. Outlining that starting from the next academic year, teaching in certain specialties will be conducted in English, the deputy head expressed confidence that the opening of the language lab, established with the support of the US Embassy, ​​will make an important contribution to the development of English language skills of both students and customs officers. The deputy head of the Academy thanked the Ambassador on behalf of the Academy, for the support provided by the Embassy in the establishment of a language lab and the provision of rich educational resources.

Elvin Mejidov, the Coordinator for International Cooperation of the Customs Academy, made a comprehensive presentation on the general activities of the Academy, relations in the field of international cooperation, the development of relations with the US higher educational institutions, also the relations in the field of strengthening of human resources with  academic and customs training institutions and the planned training cooperation.

 Expressing satisfaction with his visit to the Academy of the State Customs Committee, the ambassador thanked for the warm hospitality, as well as for the very interesting and extensive presentation. Highly appreciating the activities of the Academy, the Ambassador noted the importance of bilateral cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan in the field of higher education and training and he stressed  the importance of developing the cooperation to increase knowledge and skills in the field of customs.

 Then the Academy presented the traditional symbolic gifts to the ambassador.

After the official part of the meeting, the ambassador got acquainted with the newly established English-language training computer lab at the Academy, the lecture halls of the Academy equipped with modern technical means of control, observed the process of teaching English language and communicated closely with the students.
